The “Kings of Katipunan,” UP Fighting Maroons, dominated over the Ateneo Blue Eagles in overtime, 76-71, last October 16, 2022.

On the sidelines of the game, Tyler Tio, ex-team captain of the Blue Eagles and now a cheerleader for the team, and CJ Cansino of the Fighting Maroons, who is currently under rehab due to his injury, watched the game and supported their teams.

The Anchormen commented on how the Fighting Maroons lost their drivers now that Ricci Rivero’s playing years are over, and CJ Cansino won’t be able to return until March. Carl Tamayo proves them wrong as he drives the Maroons into victory.

Tamayo delivered 20 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 assists, earning himself the “Player of the Game” title.

Carl Tamayo, together with Malick Diouf, overpowered in the extra period to outshine Forthsky Padrigao, who caused the forced overtime with his 3-point shot making the scoreboard a tie, 64-64.

The UP Fighting Maroons’ James Spencer earned 14 points for his team, while Malick Diouf and Zavier Lucero added 12 and 10 markers.

Many fans state that this game feels like the finals, even though it’s only the first round of the season. “It’s the rematch of the UAAP: Season 84 Men's Basketball Finale,” they say.
