By Ezra Nelsen Dizon, Eloisa Aluit, and Ma. Luisa Venize Cruz

December 3, 2023

Another day, another slay! Following the second day of the MACIPRISA meet 2023, November 29, 2023, the Scorpions’ amazing sporting prowess, marvelous tactical skills, and unfaltering teamwork have once again echoed to bring glorious victories to our very own Centro Escolar Integrated School.

Clamorous cheers and enthusiasm from different schools filled the court of the Holy Spirit Academy of Malolos as day 2 kicked off with a suspenseful clash between CEIS Scorpions and STI on the Basketball Men 5x5 category. Shooting his shot, CEIS’ Santos scored a 3 right away as the 1st quarter commences. STI’s Sangria didn’t let the Scorpions rise as he marked multiple points to lift his team, ending the quarter at 16-10. The Scorpions then tried to escape the 6-point lead headlock by scoring 5 points as the 2nd quarter started, however, STI managed to repel them once again, with a score of 21-15. Dribbling in hopes, CEIS’ Justiniano posted 7 points to help the Scorpions catch up, with a gap in the last few minutes of the 2nd quarter at 37-35. The Scorpions were able to keep up with STI’s pace during the second half with Justiniano and Gayares’ help. After a long time fighting for the lead, the CEIS took over the last minute of the game with 72-69, triggering STI to turn the tables. As the final buzzer struck, STI posted a 2-pointer, winning a clutched game over CEIS with 74-72 points.

After their unexpected defeat in game 1, the Scorpions faced another neck-and-neck battle with the HSAM Paracletes as both teams were eager to secure their tickets to the quarter-finals. The Paracletes took height at the beginning of the game, but the Scorpions managed to snatch the lead in the 1st half when Asgar and Macaligar’s tandem sailed, scoring a 26-24. Despite trailing off, Parcletes’ Mendoza chipped in multiple points in the 3rd quarter to tie the scoreboard at 30-30, he then scored another 2 points from his free throw letting HSAM grasp a 2-point lead. CEIS didn’t let the Parcletes steal the spotlight as they managed to take it back before the 3rd quarter ended, with a score of 35-34. The highly contested match brought the audience in awe after the two teams exchanged multiple threes in the last quarter to race to victory. After facing each other’s tremendous height, the Scorpions bowed in victory as their fierce match between the Paracletes ended in a 4-point lead, with a final score of 54-48.

The Scorpions faced another defeat as they failed to snap back against the LCUP Bravehearts during their second face-off in the MACIPRISA 2023 Women’s Basketball 5x5 category. With their unmatched brave hearts, LCUP dominated the court for the second time again. Kicking off the game with a 10-point lead, the Scorpions had a hard time overtaking LCUP’s defense. Keeping a wide gap throughout the game, the Bravehearts closed the battle with Cruz’ slicked 3-point shot, leaving the scoreboard at 50-19.

On the other hand, the CEIS Men’s Volleyball team secured their flight to the Semi-finals after smashing the MQSM at Bulacan Ecumenical School, 2-1. With their blazing spikes and raging services, the Scorpions dominated the court, locking MSQM on a 9-point lead, scoring a 25-16. MQSM pulled a reverse card as the 2nd set commences, also creating a 9-point gap on the scoreboard. The Scorpions failed to maintain their glory during the set despite their efforts, having a 24-21 score. Both teams entered the 3rd set with even more determination to bag the triumph. Lopez darted 5 points raising the score to 5-0, in favor of CEIS. The Scorpions' bitings continued to echo in the court, closing the game at 15-8.

On the same site, CEIS faced a tough defeat over LCUP during their second game at BES. The Bravehearts tainted CEIS’ 2-0 run in the MACIPRISA 2023 Men’s Volleyball category. The Bravehearts dominated the court with their fiery attacks and incredible smashes, pushing the 1st set to 25-18. The Scorpions continued to walk on a rough path during the 2nd set despite tying the score once at 7-7. LCUP’s height continued to rise, beating the Scorpions at 25-18. The CEIS Women’s Volleyball team painted CEIS pinker and greener! With their amazing defense and fiery strikes, the Scorpions reigned during their match between the ICSM, 2-0. Despite ICSM scoring first, the ladies of the Scorpions managed to keep the luck rolling in their hands, ending the 1st set with a 7-point lead, 25-18 points.

The Scorpions took over again during the 2nd quarter but ICSM wasn’t taken aback by their fiery dominance as they shattered CEIS’ 6-point lead. The Scorpions didn’t falter and stole the show once again to claim the throne, 25-15.

After a successful match with ICSM, the Scorpions failed to sting the Paracletes, 2-1. Ramos and Sarmiento played a crucial role in maintaining the lead for CEIS during the 1st set. After delivering their blazing attacks, CEIS pulverized HSAM with a 16-point lead, obtaining a 25-9 score. The 2nd set showed the spectators a nail-biting match as both teams continued to catch up with each other’s lead. The Scorpions managed to tie with the Paracletes resulting in a deuce, 24-24, but HSAM’s Reyes ended the thrilling set to secure their team’s place on the throne. The third set was a tug-of-war game, despite CEIS scoring first, the Paracletes still managed to overpower the Scorpions, 15-10, claiming the victory for their team.

At Citywalk Sports Center, the Badminton court has never felt alive as the Scorpions have brought their powerful sting. The Badminton players under Elementary bagged a total of 4 medals. Francis Miguel De Luna and Juan Carlos Medel secured the bronze as doubles, while Sebastian Seven Pascual and Eunice Athena Roque snatched bronze playing singles. Moving to the other side of the court, the High School team goes home with a bronze medal and a gold securing a ticket to advance to this coming City Meet. CEIS Badminton Women are on fire as they smash MACIPRISA 2023. Elleine Althea Roque and Ellyssa Joyce Talampas claim gold as doubles, while Samantha Loraine Gan wins bronze in the singles division.

The Women’s Singles match of Table Tennis continued its captivating play on the second day of MACIPRISA 2023. The Scorpions' unwavering fighting spirit persisted throughout an outstanding battle of skill and strategic prowess. Until the final match, the players consistently brought pride in representing CEIS, making us exceptionally proud of their efforts and achievements.

In the Men's Singles category kickoff, the competition delivered a highly fierce battle that held both players and spectators in rapt attention. Thunderous cheers from supporters representing different schools heightened the intensity of a pivotal skill and competitive spirit showdown. The match reached nail-biting moments as each player executed powerful serves, swift rallies, and strategic shots, leaving the audience in suspense and showcasing the determination of the athletes to achieve victory. The Scorpions secured impressive outcomes, yet a more significant victory awaits as the player of Singles 1 progresses to the Men's Table Tennis finals.

With their sharp wit, the Scorpions continued to serve an exceptional performance as they won multiple rounds during the Chess competition. Following their final standings, the candidates for elementary girls and boys won a gold. On the other hand, the secondary girls’ candidates brought home a bronze.
