October 7, 2023

With a 70-60 score, Gilas Pilipinas made history on the 6th of October 2023, as they became the gold medalists of the 19th Asian Games men's basketball finals.

Gilas won gold for the first time again for the past 61 years, the last dating in the year 1962. With coach Tim Cone leading the team to victory against Jordan, who defeated the team just last week. In his first year of being the head coach of the country’s national team, Coach Tim proved that he can indeed lead Gilas Pilipinas.

Justin Brownlee scoring the most for his team at 20 points and Ange Kouame proving his worth by bagging the win with 14 points, the naturalized players of the team were big helps in the winning and they showed just how evident their Filipino pride is. On the other hand, Chris Newsome scored 13 points and was awarded player of the game.

This tournament placed the country’s mark onto the top of the basketball leagues and made a lot of Filipino citizens proud and overjoyed. Let’s hope that we can have a winning streak by winning in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament as well.
