SportsFest 2024 RECAP: Day 3

As the SportsFest entered its third day on Friday, October 18, the Centrodome buzzed with excitement as the event officially started with a thrilling men’s basketball match between the Green Cerberus and Red Mockingjay.


The day’s lineup began with a men’s basketball match between the Green Cerberus and Red Mockingjay, followed by a women’s 3x3 basketball match between the Blue Phoenix and Yellow Griffins. 


The third game was a men’s basketball match between the Blue Phoenix and Yellow Griffins, followed by the finals match between the Gray Ravens and Green Scorpions, concluding this year’s Sportsfest’s basketball elementary level. The results for each game were as follows:


Basketball High School: Men

Green Cerberus vs. Red Mockingjay

Score: 77-61, in favor of Green Cerberus


Basketball High School: Women (3x3)

Blue Phoenix vs. Yellow Griffins

Score: 6-4, in favor of Blue Phoenix


Basketball High School: Men

Blue Phoenix vs. Yellow Griffins

Score: 73-67, in favor of Blue Phoenix


Basketball Elementary: Boys (Finals)

Gray Ravens vs. Green Scorpions

Score: 24-14, in favor of Gray Ravens


Following the basketball matches, the volleyball competitions began with a men’s volleyball match between the Yellow Griffins and the Blue Phoenix, followed by another men’s volleyball match between the Red Mockingjay and Green Cerberus. Finally, the last volleyball match was between the Blue Phoenix and the Yellow Griffins. 


The results for the volleyball matches were as follows:


Volleyball High School: Women

Blue Phoenix vs. Yellow Griffins

1st Set: 25-18, in favor of Yellow Griffins

2nd Set: 26-24, in favor of Yellow Griffins

Results: 2-0, in favor of Yellow Griffins


Volleyball High School: Men

Red Mockingjay vs. Green Cerberus

1st Set: 25-16, in favor of Red Mockingjay

2nd Set: 25-17, in favor of Red Mockingjay

Results: 2-0, in favor of Red Mockingjay

Blue Phoenix vs. Yellow Griffins

1st Set: 26-24, in favor of Blue Phoenix

2nd Set: 25-18, in favor of Blue Phoenix

While the ball games were happening at the Centrodome, players from Blue Phoenix, Yellow Griffins, Red Mockingjay, and Green Cerberus competed for the championship and third place.

Furthermore, the preschool Math and Spelling Quiz Bee took over between students from the Pink Assassins, Gray Ravens, and Green Scorpions. Participants were awarded certificates for their achievements in both winning and participating in the quiz bees.


After the ball games, the awarding ceremony for the grade school volleyball and basketball took place. The players and teams who received medals, special awards, and team awards are as follows:

Following the awarding ceremony, the highly anticipated Battle of the Bands began, featuring seven bands from different grade levels: After Class, Diwa, Talinghaga, Himaya, Lamesa, Four-to-Seven, and Himari.


 Before the performances began, Mr. Raymond Mendoza introduced the judges: Mr. John David Valbuena, a singer and songwriter; Mr. Abelardo de Leon, a musician for 20 years, a member of the BSU Ice Band, and the music director of the WWCF Music Team; and Mr. Herbie Vilches, the chief musician of Riverflow Christian Fellowship.


The first band to perform was After Class, who performed “River” by Bishop Briggs and “Hey Mama” by David Guetta, AFROJACK, Bebe Rexha, and Nicki Minaj. They were followed by Diwa, who performed “Narda” by Kamikazee and “Banal na Aso Santong Kabayo” by Yano. Following Diwa, Talinghaga then performed “Wag Na Lang” by Cup of Joe and “Namumula” by Maki. Next, Himaya performed “Estranghero” by Cup of Joe and “Hindi Na Nga” by This Band. 


Lamesa followed with “Creep” by Radiohead and “Beer” by The Itchyworms. Then, Four-to-Seven performed “Shut Up and Dance” by WALK THE MOON and “Bulong !!!” by Kitchie Nadal. Finally, Himari performed “Huwag Na Huwag Mong Sasabihin” by Kitchie Nadal and “Martyr Nyebera” by Kamikazee.


The performances were followed by the announcement of the winners:


Champion: After Class

1st Runner-Up: Diwa

2nd Runner-Up: Four-to-Seven


After the winners were announced, After Class returned to the stage to perform again, concluding the Battle of the Bands and the third day of SportsFest 2024-2025.
