Dr. Mary Ann Bunyi, president of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society of the Philippines, advises parents in a media briefing organized by the Philippine Pediatric Society to restrict the entry of their unvaccinated children in malls to prevent them from being infected with Covid-19.
"Ngayon, nadadala na ang mga bata sa enclosed spaces, such as malls, which are crowded places. Pareho lang naman nilang pwedeng makuha ang virus whether indoors or outdoors, but yung chances na makuha nila yung virus is greater kung nasa indoor settings sila,” said Bunyi.
Bunyi added that if parents want to bring their children to malls, they can go there when there are fewer people and lessen their time inside these establishments.
She emphasized that it is the parent’s duty to make their children safe against the virus.
Some places in the Philippines, like National Capital Region (NCR), are currently under alert level 2, which increases the mobility of unvaccinated minors.
According to the Department of Health (DOH), out of more than 2.8 million cases in the country, 12.4 percent come from the pediatric group, where 1.7 percent have died.
Most of the infections have come from the 15 to 19-year-old groups, while most deaths were from 0 to 4-year-old groups.
