Various youth and labor groups staged a protest against ‘widespread election anomalies’ in front of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) office in Intramuros, Manila on Tuesday, May 10.

The protesters were criticizing COMELEC for the alleged fraud and violence that occurred during the elections on May 9. They also expressed their disappointment after presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. takes a huge lead in the 2022 elections.

The protesters can be heard chanting different phrases and lines angrily. They have been shouting lines such as, “COMELEC duwag,” “COMELEC, COMELEC, palpak, panagutin,” and “Walkout, walkout,” to express their anger at the election which was said to be fraudulent.

Danilo Arao, spokesperson of Kontra Daya, says that the malfunctioning of 1800 vote-counting machines (VCM) affected at least 1.5M voters.

“Never again to Martial Law,” and “Marcos, Duterte walang pinag-iba,” were also chanted to urge the government to reject the UniTeam tandem. They also told the public not to forget the dark days of Martial Law.

Marcos currently leads the presidential race with 30,949,373 votes. Incumbent Vice President Leni Robredo comes in second with 14,753,883 votes. Meanwhile, in the vice presidential race, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte is leading with 31,393,059 votes, followed by Sen. Kiko Pangilinan with 9,187,940 votes.

The protesters also sang ‘Bayan Ko,’ a song popularized during the ouster of Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
