2025 Election: Actors and Influencers for Government Officials

From October 3 to 8, the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) filing for the 2025 midterm elections commenced, and individuals with different backgrounds expressed their aspirations to hold public office, including multimedia personalities.

Rosmar Tan Pamulaklakin, known as “Rosmar Tan," a vlogger and entrepreneur is one of the aspirants. She will be running independently this coming election for the position of councilor of the 1st district of Manila. In an interview, she mentioned that she didn’t plan to run, but her friends persuaded her because the people needed her help. 

Rosmar Tan Stated in an interview with ABC CBN “May nag-push po sa’kin na, ‘Tumakbo ka kasi kailangan ka ng tao, kasi kailangan nila ng tunay na pagbabago’,” 

It wasn’t her first time running as she also ran as councilor of Manila's 4th district in 2022 but lost.

On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, Deo Jarito Balbuena, or "Diwata,” was the fourth nominee for the Vendors PartyList. He said he knows the issues faced by the street vendors due to his experience. 

When Balbuena was interviewed by the news reporter he said: "Base sa mga karanasan ko—seguro maraming nakakakita sa social media kung paano ako makipaglaban bilang isang vendor—hindi ako nag-atubili na sumama sa kanila (partylist) para ipaglaban ang karapatan ng bawat maninindang Pilipino." 

Despite his ongoing battle with cancer, Doc Willie Ong, a well-known doctor and social media personality who rose to prominence for giving medical advice through his social media, is running for senator in this upcoming election. His wife, Doc Liza Ong, arranged his COC last Thursday.

Well-known actors and actresses also filled for COC this October 1st to 8th.

“It’s Showtime” host Vice Ganda’s partner Ion Perez, submitted a COC at conception, Tarlac—running for the position of councilor. 

On October 3, “Star for all Seasons,” Vilma Santos-Recto, with her sons, Luis Manzano and Ryan Christian Santos Recto, filed for their candidacy. Santos is aiming for the position of governor, while her sons Mansano and Recto filed for the positions of Vice Governor and Congress Representative Of The 6th District Of Batangas, respectively. Santos served as the Governor of Batangas from 2007 to 2016.

In a recent Instagram post, actor and model, Marco Gumabao shows his COC, as he runs as Governor of Camarines Sur.

Gumabao captioned his post with “Today marks a new journey. Para sa’kin, simula ‘to ng isang malaking yugto sa aking buhay. Panibagong simula na sigurado ako makakagawa ng malaking epekto hindi lang para sa sarili ko, kundi sa buong 4th District ng CamSur,"

Television actor, Philip Salvador, often referred to as "Ipe," filed for a Senate seat under the banner of the "Partido Demokratiko Pilipino" (PDP) on October 3.

On October 7, “The Philippine Superstar,” Nora Aunor, submitted her COC  application, aiming for a congressional seat under the party-list People's Champ Guardians. 

A few minutes before the COC filing concluded, TV presenter, Willie Revillame, known as "Kuya Will," presented his certificate of candidacy to run for senator in this 2025 election.

The COC filings ended with 109 party lists and 184 senatorial candidates who will run for the 2025 midterm elections on May 12, 2025.
