TRIBUTE: Deafening Silence in the Exploration of Journalism

By Jessie Jillianne Racoma

August 6, 2023

Kung may katagang “ang magtanim ay ‘di biro,” sa mga mamamahayag “ang magsulat ng isang artikulo ay ‘di biro.”

Enthusiastic, equitable viewpoints, unbiased perspective, and a willingness to speak for others are some of the qualities that someone should possess before pursuing an endeavor in campus journalism. Just so you know, a correspondent has no predefined time frame. They must be constantly alert in order to adapt to the event; the latest information is not going to wait for them; rather, they are going to patiently wait for them! While discussing an issue that is delicate, they ought to avoid letting their personal emotions take precedence. Such sentiments have no place.

Natapos din ‘tong draft ko. Finally!” said the journalist. Exhausted and somnolent eyes after finishing an article draft replaces ecstatic eyes after seeing the article tracker's 'Published' status.

It is not as simple as others assume to publish an article in this publication. It takes patience, diligence, and knowledge. Though writers have trouble structuring words for an article at times, there is a flame of passion in their hearts as they strive for journalistic excellence and continue to pursue their burning passion for journalism. They have proven what their abilities are truly capable of by covering endless events, creating articles and uploading high-quality photos, layout for public materials and thumbnails, and participating in outside competitions for their schools, and the best part is that it is not all of it yet. It is only the tip of the iceberg in terms of what they are capable of. Now that the journalists responsible for the fruitful Publication Year 2022-2023 have finally graduated, it is time to remind readers to recognize the people behind the articles we publish. Here are some of their stories about why they joined The Escolarian publication, their favorite experiences with it, and their messages and advice to the next batch of The Escolarian writers.

Biel Jose Catipon (Editor-in-Chief)

Campus journalism, I believe, is something that I am very passionate about since I've been into it since elementary. When I first joined The Escolarian during the pandemic, I was a news correspondent. Distance learning could not stop us from providing news, so I thought "I was able to write articles while staying at home, for sure there will be more scoops and newsworthy events that will happen when I enter 12th grade as we shift into hybrid learning." So my thirst in pursuing journalistic excellence is the main reason I stayed in this wonderful publication.

I believe merely being part of The Escolarian is already the best part. I think out of all clubs or organizations in CEIS, our publication has the most autonomy to do something we want, to publish articles we just want to write, and to post content we just want to post, admittedly even including memes. There is nothing more fulfilling than providing fellow Escolarians articles with your name in the byline, I think that's one of the best parts. Another thing is the people. It was such a memorable experience working with such incredible writers and staffers.

There are too many memorable The Escolarian encounters and experiences but here are my favorite ones: first is the major coverages that we did such as the SSC elections where I stayed until 9 PM in school just to finish the counting of votes, the graduation coverage which was my first task as EIC, and the Sports Festival 2023 where I became an all-rounder because I covered almost all the sports while also being a player (we had over 70 live updates just for that event as far as I can remember). Second is the chikahans and kwentuhans with some of the staffers, Sir Raymond, and the members of the Editorial Board. Third is every time we do live updates, walang pasok announcements, and "just in" news, lagi akong proud sa mga 'yun dahil doon ko nararamdaman ang tunay na pagka-journalist. Next, the simpleng kawayans, bows, ngitians, and batians whenever magkakasalubong kami ng staffers ko sa loob ng campus. Lastly, of course, our first ever face-to-face general assembly where I got to meet new people and get to know more about my staffer. It is just so nice to have a community that has the same interest as you: journalism. As what I've said, my stay in The Escolarian is a core memory I will always remember and cherish.

Always have that passion in serving the studentry in the means of campus journalism. There will be lots of challenges along the way like heavy workloads, misunderstandings with orgmates, and invalid criticisms from others, but remember that those challenges arise because the campus journalism that you guys are doing is effective. Remember how I shared with all of you how I almost became a quitter? That was one of the challenges, pero malalampasan niyo rin yan, magtulungan lang lagi. Always thrive for journalistic excellence and manatiling maninindigan sa kung ano ang tama. Congratulations to the next batch of the Editorial Board, I know every one of you will do great! Mahal ko kayo uwu. Lagi't lagi, para sa malayang pamamahayag!

Andrea Teves (Associate Editor

Originally, I wanted to join Kwerdas since choir member ako nung junior high school. But then naisip ko, maybe it’s time for me to focus on my other passion, which is writing. Creative writing to be specific, and journalism is the closest one to it. Funny story, I actually missed the registration period. Biel, our current EIC, who was also my classmate at that time, asked Sir Raymond if we could still apply even though the registration period is already done. It was a day before the audition period. So at that time, I took it as a sign to join the Escolarian. So why did I stay? As a Humanities and Social Science student, marami akong ipinaglalaban at maraming sakit ang lipunan na dapat pagalingin. In this age, the best thing I can do to contribute is through writing. In journalism, I found out that you can create a more direct approach in promoting radical changes. I can voice out my thoughts in just a few words, and that’s why I fell in love with it. There’s just so much to say about the world and it needs to be said. There are a lot of voices that needs to be heard, and that’s why I stayed.

Aside from being the voice of the Escolarians, I think the best part is the friendship and the interactions it offers. Because I was one of the editors, masaya for me kasi nakakapag interact ako sa mga campus journalist natin even though hindi kami magka-department. I also made a lot of friends which I hope will last long even though magkakahiwa-hiwalay na kami ng landas. And since ako rin ang nag-lead sa photojournalists, I learned a lot in taking pictures. Every time na umaalis ako to take pictures, it’s such a delight kasi people would pose for the camera. A lot of them would volunteer to pose for shots just to get that one frame of exposure sa page my publication.  Joining The Escolarian is also a great learning experience. Halos lahat ng article genre nasubukan kong gawin except sports and sci-tech. And I believe it will give me an edge pagdating ko sa college.

One of the funniest moments is during sports fest. During the parade and the general knowledge quiz bee, sobrang nakakatawa kasi ang daming gusto magpapicture. Some of them are even posing dramatically, or they would stop the line just to be seen in a good angle. Tapos sisigaw sila ng “Andy, post mo ‘to ah!” And that never fails to make me smile. Feel na feel ko yung love! Eme! But seriously, natuwa ako kasi it just shows the relevance of our organization. I felt appreciated by Escolarians. Kumbaga yung hard-work every coverage is nagiging worth it kasi may nakaka-appreciate pala ng mga ginagawa natin. This is also one of the reasons why Biel and I would take lots of pictures, kahit meme-able sila. We want people to be able to relate to the funny moments na nangyayari during the event. Gusto namin may memories sila na nandon sila sa event na iyon, and they have something to share with their Facebook friends and their family also.

To the editorial board and the future staffers, I hope you also find the friendship that we found with E! Since paalis na kami, the only thing we ask of you is to take care of the publication, and of course, enjoy your time as a campus journalist. Being a campus journalist comes with a big responsibility, but I am confident na kayang-kaya ng next batch na gumawa ng kanilang legacy. I know you guys are passionate about campus journalism, and that’s the key to achieve the journalistic excellence that we always dreamt of pursuing. Good luck on the next batch! As we always say, lagit lagi para sa malayang pamamahayag!

Ellyssa Marie Talucod (Chief News & Opinion Editor and Chief Layout Artist)

Entering senior high, I immediately knew I wanted to be a part of something bigger. I have always loved writing and journalism, and I saw The Escolarian as a platform from where I can nurture and exercise those passions of mine. I joined for myself, but ultimately stayed for the people who were with me. Being surrounded by people who had the same passion was empowering, and will forever be proud of being a part of this publication.

If I had never joined the publication I would have never gotten to experience the opportunities and the community that The E offers. We were given opportunities to write about topics we were passionate about, we got to experience covering events, making full on newspapers, and even join competitions outside of school. The experiences The Escolarian has given me, though admittedly not always the easiest, will always have a special place in my heart.

My most memorable experience with The E was when we did our first coverage of last year’s graduation ceremony. It was my first time meeting schoolmates on a face to face set up, so I was nervous yet excited at the same time. During the event we were all running around and there wasn’t a moment when I wasn’t taking pictures or making captions. Afterward, we had to make a lot of pub-mats and quote cards about the event. This first coverage set up the foundation for our friendship.

To all of you, there is only one advice that I would give, and that is to not be afraid. Don’t be afraid to try new things and make mistakes. Don’t bound yourself in anxieties and doubts, but be more afraid of regretting not doing something. Be organized, be mindful, communicate and speak up. Take this opportunity and use it with great passion and always remember to enjoy these experiences, savor every moment. I wish you all the best!

Sophia Mendiola (Chief Features Editor)

I’ve always had an overflowing love for literature, whether it be found in its heartfelt appreciation, or in a multitude of attempts to conjure up a semblance of its creation. Eventually, this habit of mine has found its home in journalism as well; and I have been devoted to the craft, responsibility, resilience, valor, and intellect that goes into it ever since. Joining The Escolarian is a no-brainer for me, for I’ve always loved working in the field and immersing myself in such activities that ignites the sparks of radical passion and intellectual creativity within me. During my two year stay in this organization, I found solace in creating written pieces that resonate with students that feel a bit lost and mute in this rather dizzying and deafening mismatched crowd that we all exist in. The Escolarian indeed helped me bridge connections with other people; being a catalyst for my growth, and providing me with fresh perspectives at every turn.

For me, the best part of being a part of D’Esco is the supportive and loving community behind it. Truly, my heart is beyond grateful for the meaningful connections, intertwined strings, and soulful bonds I have found during my stay here. Especially with the Editorial Board, whom I have never expected to create such close bonds with, and yet, I know that my memories with them will be the ones I look back to with nothing but fondness settling within the pits of my heart.

My fondest memory of The Escolarian is probably the new staffers’ orientation day. It gave me the opportunity to get to know and make friends with people who conveniently have the same interests as I do. It was a day filled with laughter, fun little anecdotes, and heartfelt bonds. Small as that classroom where we held the meeting may be, our fiery hearts ignited with passion made it seem like an endless avenue for fruitful dreams.

My sole piece of advice is to enjoy the journey, and of course, the people you get to spend it with. This coming year certainly would not be an easy feat, there will be hurdles and temporary finish lines to succeed through. However, these tribulations aren’t yours alone to conquer, for you have each other to lean on and back up when the going gets tough after all. Come hell or high water, have faith in yourself, as well as the people that surround you, and you will get by, like you always do.

Mary Elizabeth De Mesa (Head Cartoonist)

I have always wanted to display my skills as a student journalist to provide information in a creative way, which is by being an editorial cartoonist. Being a part of my previous school’s contenders in Press Schools Conferences, I wanted to maintain my ability and competency to deliver a message through cartooning. Choosing The Escolarian allowed me to grasp that opportunity once again and I chose to stay because I wanted to keep that momentum. Furthermore, the people around me, inside and outside of the organization, were the driving forces to maintain my loyalty to the group.

Aside from granting me the chance to draw for a cause, being part of The Escolarian not only opened its doors to showcase my abilities as a journalist but also enabled me to meet and bond with schoolmates that share the same interest. It was a welcoming environment. I was able to make new friends and form a strong connection with them. Their help extended even outside organization works which I find memorable. Not to mention, Sir Raymond is an adviser full of motivational and inspirational support that pushed us to do our best in anything that we must accomplish.

The Escolarian produced many, if not all, memorable experiences. The challenges that we encountered and faced head-on, sometimes even cramming works, were unforgettable experiences. If I were to choose a favorite experience, it would be the video shoot for the virtual open house before the school year started. It was my first time touring around the CEIS building and meeting some of my teachers face-to-face was quite exciting. That was also the time when we met the Editorial Board and Staffers from the batch before us. Another experience that I will not forget is the first general meeting of The Escolarian. It was fun seeing my classmates and schoolmates I know join the organization and meet new staffers and contributors from the lower grade levels.

Dear incoming editorial board and staffers, the future of The Escolarian is now in your hands. Obstacles and challenges will stumble upon you, yet do not give up, do not be afraid. These moments will make you use your abilities to the maximum but will be a cause for improvement. Always remember, communication is the key. May it be during the process of publishing or disseminating information. Teamwork is a huge factor to help you grow more. Wishing you the best of luck and guide E towards delivering the truth!

James Fernando (Assistant News & Opinion Editor)

I chose The Escolarian because I had past experiences in campus journalism. I chose to stay here because I want to inform my fellow students about the happenings inside and outside the school.

The best part of being a part of The Escolarian is that I get to know and meet new amazing people with a passion in writing and pursuing journalistic excellence.

One of my favorite The Escolarian experience is when we had a shoot for the Virtual Open House last year. It was my first time meeting the other staffers, teachers, and members of other clubs. Another favorite experience is when we trained and fought in DSPC 2023. During trainings, I learned a lot about news writing and I think that I improved. Even if I did not win and advance in RSPC, it was still a memorable experience because it was my last press conference in high school and I learned a lot.

To the incoming staffers, continue writing to inform and empower the students of CEIS and have fun in this organization. To the incoming editorial board, lead and inspire the other staffers to be more active and continue to pursue journalistic excellence.

Pia Karoline De Jesus (Assistant Chief Layout Artist)

Writing has always been an aspect of my life. I was able to continue pursuing what makes me happy, thanks to The Escolarian. When the results of the rosters came out, I was overjoyed. Furthermore, this organization's welcoming environment from the start assured me that I was in the right place. The perfect setting for me to put my skills to use, enhance them, meet new friends, experience new things, and have a chance to convey journalistic excellence in the community.

Last academic year, I had the opportunity to be a Feature Writer. It was fantastic, and I could give stories and advice as planned. As cliche as it may sound, not everything goes as planned. Right before the membership renewal, I suddenly changed my heart and wanted to try new things, and now, I work as a Layout Editor. What made me stay was the trust and support of Sir Raymond and the rest of the team. But of course, creativity and proficiency are still required to craft an eye-catching visual. And remembering why you write for a reason is enough fuel to continue standing up for what is right and what must be changed.

The greatest thing about being a member of The Escolarian is the team itself. An article cannot be published in just a snap of a finger. It passes through a process that would not be feasible without the team's ongoing joint effort. There would be times when a task may seem extremely difficult. Despite that, being among individuals who are creative, enthusiastic, hardworking, and fun to be with makes the process much more a lot more bearable. Through The Escolarian, I found lifelong friends and established connections while also giving to the community.

One of my most memorable The Escolarian "happenings," which occurs far more frequently than we would want, is when there would instances that a piece of information slips our mind. It is fascinating that someone would remember it right before the deadline, proving that working with many people is not always something to fear.

To The Escolarian '23-'24, always keep in mind to remember why you joined in the first place. Do not be disheartened when if it ever comes to a point where you'd question your abilities because you can no longer think of what words to write or what elements to include. It will happen, believe me. There may also be times when you'd feel burnt out from juggling academics, organizational work, and life outside of school. And at this point, you'll learn to depend on your teammates and collaborate more than ever. A school publication cannot be managed by a small group of individuals. It takes a community to serve its community.

Alicia Louisse Cortez (Assistant Features Editor)

Writing has always been an interesting skill for me. There are words you cannot or shall not say, so writing is an alternative way of doing so. And, it’s amazing how you reel people who read your works in just because of your topic, emotions, writing style and more. This is why I chose Escolarian and stayed because I felt free to write what I want and learn alongside. I learned a lot through writing, journalism and some fictional stories along the way.

First, just by being a part of it. It was fun and memorable to the max. Also, keeping up with the news, meeting different kinds of people, and loving writing even more.

I think it’s well known, but the best part is that there’s always chikahan sessions. The whole staff is very approachable and nice. The sessions were so wholesome.

Just write and enjoy the process. Being a part of D’Esco has its ups and downs, in my experience. There’s a juggle between academics and fishing up an article from your busy life, but it is so worth it when you see it published and reaches people. Do something to improve. Wait for the improvement before you enjoy, then improve again. There’s always a room for it. Ignite that passion you have and hone it for a better skill. Still, just enjoy!

Paul Armand Mallari (News Correspondent)

I chose and stay being part of the “The Escolarian” because  I found it fulfilling seeing your name written on the article that you’ve made. I enjoyed it and loved it.

The best part of being a member of the organization is the bond and the new knowledge that you can equip.

Aliyah Patricia Garcia (News Correspondent)

I chose the Escolarian to continue pursuing my passion for campus journalism in senior high school amidst the new learning set-up. I decided to stay in this organization until the end of my high school journey as I wanted to be involved in empowering and disseminating truthful information, especially in these times.

The best part of being a member of the Escolarian is that I had the chance to advocate freedom of the press along with other students who strive to channel the truth through journalism.

Raiah Lois Larit (News Correspondent)

I chose The Escolarian because I wanted to try something new sa last stay ko sa ceis, what made me stay is that the realization na there’s a whole other world for me to figure out.

I think yung best part of being part of the esco is the experience talaga, medyo tiring naman talaga tsaka nakakaubos ng braincells pero super worth it naman once you see the whole outcome.

Brigette Leigh Mantala (Feature Writer and Layout Artist)

Writing has always been a way for me to let out whatever is on my mind, which is why I opted to join The Escolarian, an organization that provides its members the freedom to express their thoughts through words. Joining The Escolarian was as if stopping by an unknown garden where you unexpectedly spot a four-leaf clover. It’s rare to find people who share the same principle and passion for journalism, hence why I didn’t think twice when I chose to be part of an amazing team until my last year in SHS.

Being a part of The Escolarian is truly a core memory in yellow. The heartwarming support of the members towards each other is definitely one of the reasons that made it a worthwhile experience. Our shared love for writing has brought everyone together. Even if I wasn’t writing articles or editing pub mats, I was still able to hone my skills and be motivated every time I see the captivating work of my peers.

Alyssa Micah Tayug (Feature Writer)

I chose to join The Escolarian because of my longing for writing. I've been a part of the student publication of my former school since 7th grade and nagstop lang ako for a year (Grade 10) because nagkapandemic, mainly the reason why nadisolve yung orgs sa amin. During that time, I felt incomplete. Ramdam ko na something was missing. Siguro dahil nasanay at napamahal na ako sa pagsusulat to the point na hinahanap ko na siya parati. Every time na nagiging clouded yung utak ko with my thoughts and feelings on certain topics, yung pagsusulat yung nagiging instrument ko to let it all out. Hindi ako napapakali kapag hindi ko siya naisusulat. That's why when I transferred here sa CEIS, I grabbed the opportunity and decided to join The Escolarian. Hindi naman ako nagkamali sa pagsali dahil ang dami kong natutuhan at nakilala dito sa loob ng dalawang taon. After a year, I decided to stay dahil I know na dito ako sasaya and mag-iimprove as a person, a campus journalist, and a citizen of our country. Even though it became a bit risky to write given our country's situation, I knew that this was the best time to serve the nation for as long as I have my voice.

For me, the best thing about joining this family was having the freedom to write about literally anything at any time and meeting a lot of people who have the same interests as mine. Kailanman, hindi ako nagdudang magsulat about my chosen topics dahil alam kong hindi ako nag-iisa dito. I have my co-staffers na nakasuporta at handang umalalay sa akin parati. Also, I love the fact that I wasn't too pressured by the deadlines dahil nga hawak ko yung oras ko when writing; hence, I was able to produce outputs of great quality.

Ma. Sophia Valerie Valenzuela (Feature Writer)

Ever since my junior high school years, I had been fond of writing since this is my own way of reflecting how I feel and it gives me peace of mind whenever I finished one. My English teacher before had helped me to be more confident of my writing skills which have inspired me to join organizations like this. However, pandemic happened and I wasn’t able to join that’s why when I entered CEIS I was glad that they have The Escolarian. I chose to stay because it has been a beautiful journey to let our feelings and emotions be heard as this acts as our “pahinga” to our hectic schedule may it be at school or personal life.

The best part of being an Escolarian is you not only learn new things in the process of collaborating ideas with other members, but build a stronger connection and relationship with everyone. Also, you get to discover new things that you haven’t done before which has helped to get to know the real and authentic you.

Ashley Faith Salonga (Opinion/Editorial Writer)

I chose The Escolarian because as a student, I wanted to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves. Being a journalist since elementary, it was a nice place for me to continue serving the people by writing. As an editorial writer, standing up for those who can't based on facts makes living more purposeful.

The best part of being a part of The E is when I'm able to create articles that are able to convince people and lead them to open up their minds. Also, being a part of this team, it was a fun experience,  there is no pressure for anyone.

Renz Joshua Cioco (Science and Technology Writer)

I joined The Esco since primarily gusto ko ma-experience yung pagiging campus journalist, then I figured na I would learn a lot about writing from being a member of The Esco. I stayed sa org kasi I liked the environment, and especially yung the members.

For me, the best part of being in The Esco is yung mga opportunities wherein you let yourself be heard through what you write. Then, I think it’s best to say na we learn so much, not only from sir Raymond but also from the other members.

Jhon Paul Cundangan (Science and Technology Writer)

A lot of reasons can be considered, but I think the reason behind choosing the Student Publication rather than any clubs is the atmosphere of journalism that I've been missing for a very long time. Due to the pandemic, we, the campus journalists, weren't able to enjoy those missing years.

The reason I stayed in the student publication is mainly because there's no reason for me to leave the club. The members were nice and approachable, which made me communicate and connect with them easily.

The best part of being in The Escolarian is I think the comeback of the press conferences. I enjoyed competing with different journalists along with my fellow Escolarians, but even though we are competing, I always thought to myself not to think that journalism is about competition but instead look to it as an instrument of self-expression and freedom.

Francois Zuriel Biwit (Social Media and Website Manager)

I chose The Escolarian because it aligns with my interests and academic achievements throughout my educational journey, from elementary school to senior high school. Ever since, I have actively participated in journalism-related activities, including news writing and broadcasting.

Honestly, the most fulfilling aspect for me is the sense of recognition I receive for actively participating in various activities. As a campus journalist, these acknowledgments hold special significance and serve to uplift my spirits. Engaging in campus journalism is not only personally gratifying but also an integral part of being a member of The Escolarian. By delivering unbiased news and upholding the core principles of journalism, I find a sense of purpose in contributing to something greater within the campus community.

Aihryz Cheruvin Villanueva (Photojournalist)

I chose The E, specifically because I wanted to know if my prediction was right, and thankfully, I was (nandon crush ko). The E was the perfect platform for me to pursue my hobby of photography. Being able to have the freedom and flexibility to express myself in ways that were meaningful to me was incredibly satisfying, and inspired me enough to stay. It has become an important part of who I am today, and something I will always be grateful for. Maraming Salamat The E! Lagi’t lagi, para sa malayang pamamahayag!

The best part of being with The Escolarian was I got to do what I enjoy the most - expressing human emotion through capturing fleeting moments. These raw, powerful feelings felt like empty canvases that begged for paint strokes in order to create something alive that would last and be remembered by both those who experienced it directly as well as those witness it second-hand. Even though photojournalism can have a negative connotation at times, personally, this form of media provided me with immense satisfaction from being able to capture emotions in an objective way.

Ysabella Therese San Antonio (Photojournalist)

I choose the Escolarian because in my previous school I was part of our school newspaper. And somehow I wanted na parang ipagpatuloy what I have started since I also fell in love with photography dahil it became my way of telling a story without using words, just your sense of sight.

Probably the best part of being an Escolarian is seeing your works getting published sa social media and sa paper itself. Kasi grabeng validation ang nabibigay niya for me bilang isang staffer I feel like once my work is published mas madali siyang maaccess and makareach ng target audience ko.

Raydn Mary Punla (Photojournalist)

As a photojournalist from my previous school, I continued it this senior high school year by choosing The Escolarian. I choose to stay because it teaches me a lesson about real life like how to manage time when there is cover outside the school and there is a lesson to miss. I learned what to prioritize. I keep contributing to the school paper and capturing the moment at school because it makes me happy.

The best part of being part of The Escolarian is when there is chicken joy after cover just kidding, of course getting a good photo and the friendships forged with my fellow Escolarian members. These aspects make my involvement in The Escolarian a rewarding and meaningful part of my senior high school experience.

Sarah Neiller Mundo (Photojournalist)

Madami akong reasons kung bakit I joined The Escolarian isa na diyan ay I want to enhance my hobby of taking pictures, and because of The Escolarian I think na naimprove ko naman yung hobby ko and in college maybe I will still join some orgs kase it’s fun pala. Isang reason pa ay dahil nandun yung crush ko HAHAHA mas nakakaengganyo or mas nakakaexcite sumali kapag kasama mo sa org crush mo diba, kaya ayon. I also joined The Escolarian because my friend Raiah joined and masaya din na may kaibigan na kasama sa org lalo na kapag wala kang makausap HAHAHA. The Escolarian helped me find new friends na may same interest or hobby like me kaya masmasaya talaga ang oras ko sa The Escolarian.

One of the best part ay nakikita ko name ko sa post ng The Escolarian, nakakaproud na nakikita ko name ko sa page with the pictures na tinake ko. I also love how the students are happy kapag pinipicturan ko sila, gustong-gusto kong nakikita mga ngiti nila kapag pinipicturan. But sadly saglit lang time ko because I joined late na, although saglit lang I had fun naman and in the future, I will remember being proud of being part of The Escolarian.

Charisse Nicole Dionisio (News Contributor)

Choosing the escolarian made me explore my abilities to write and expand my knowledge in journalism.

The best part of being an escolarian is that it gave me the privilege to write for my alma mater and participate in school events which I never did before.

Kurt Aeron Dela Cruz (Sports Contributor)

I joined The Escolarian to hone and nurture my skills in writing while delivering information. I’m not very good at writing, but I want to explore and get out of my comfort zone. I saw The Escolarian as an opportunity to improve myself.

The best part of being involved in The Escolarian was it really did help me in improving myself. It also allowed me to socialize with other members and form connections with them, as well as to feel the joy of having my article published in the school paper.

Azymiel Joy Calayag (Feature Contributor)

Prior to stepping into the 12th grade, throughout our summer break, I genuinely developed an enthusiasm for writing. I felt particularly driven to join The Escolarian for that reason. It seemed to me that it was going to be the ideal platform to exploit whatever unforeseen pleasure I felt while writing. Sadly, studying has left me overloaded enough that writing seems to have grown into an enormous burden. With that, I ended up being reluctant to take part effectively in the club activities.

In my humble view, the best feature of The Escolarian would be the fact that it is going to allow you to establish relationships among an exclusive circle of your co-students who share the same passions and interests as you.

Cyrish Jane Estrella (Contributing Cartoonist)

At first, I wasn't really interested in joining d' Esco until andy invited me and explained why it would be really nice to join the organization. Seeing my classmates, biel, andy, and other members of d' esco working hard inspired me a lot to join and work with them as well.

I can't think of only one but I would say the best things of being part of d' Esco are the bonds/friendship that were created inside the org, the things we've learned from each other, and lastly of course the articles, artworks, layouts we put our skills and efforts on.

Hannah Faith Ilag (Contributing Cartoonist)

Sa The Escolarian I noticed that they are very active and the people in it are passionate about what they are doing. And I've seen it up close since classmate ko si Andy and Biel who are really great in their roles and they also inspired me to join.

The best part is that you can express yourself and at the same time you raise awareness about what is currently happening. It was really fun and I learned a lot!!

Jennifer Nicole Nelmida (Layout Artist Contributor)

Out of all the orgs in CEIS Malolos, I chose The Escolarian because I believe being a part of this organization will provide me an immersive experience of being active in the school community and also to meet new people. Joining the school publication also allowed me to showcase my abilities and contribute in making news creative and engaging for the people to read.

For me, the best part of being part of The Escolarian is the feeling of fulfillment every time I could use my time and skills to cover and layout news, events, and stories that need a voice to be amplified in this influential platform. Seeing our growth in every turnout is such a priceless accomplishment.

Kelly Caitlin Garcia (Layout Artist Contributor)

Simply put, The Escolarian is reliable. I depended on its news updates as an easily confused transferee back in SY 2021-2022. While I did not apply to this organization then, it was a no-brainer that someday, I would. This school year, I chose to take part in something bigger than myself and finally send in my application. While I'm a mere contributor, I have no regrets in being a helping hand to The Escolarian and the Escolarian community it serves!

The best part about being a contributing member of The Escolarian would probably be that we have opportunities to give to ourselves and our community. By this, I mean that we are able to explore our niche, whether that be design and illustration, photography, writing, or other journalistic pursuits! At the same time, that artistry extends beyond self-gratification and into the simple and important cause of keeping people informed. Personally, I sometimes get a little too stuck on my academic responsibilities and unintentionally form a bubble away from the world. But through our platform, we are able to keep our community grounded with news and other current events locally and internationally!

Ashley Nicole Busa (Layout Artist Contributor)

I chose The Escolarian out of all the orgs in the school because it has always been my dream to be part of the student publication. As an escolarian I want to be an active member of the community and when the opportunity presented itself, I immediately grabbed the chance to be part of d’esco. I believe my academic and moral pursuits are deeply aligned with what d’esco is upholding.

The best part of being a member of the escolarian is that I get to contribute in our community through an artistic approach as a layout artist. It is also very fulfilling to see your work getting published on different platforms.

Raiven Kamille Abdala (Contributing Photojournalist)

I chose to join the escolarian because I noticed how active it is as an org. it's always on top of things, always keeping up with the events and trends and I thought, this type of environment will definitely fuel my creativity and help me enhance and strengthen my participation and involvement in CEIS. and it did, which made it such a great and unforgettable experience.

The community, the activities, and most importantly, the experience. I love how my journey as a part of the escolarian has been nothing less than fulfilling. I get to meet all these talented intellectuals,  do the things I like (in this case photography), and even had the opportunity to make the most out of my senior year by being involved in all these interactive extracurricular activities. All my efforts became worth it because of this rewarding experience.

A true journalist who has demonstrated by example that achieving journalistic excellence ought to strive on a daily basis. With these Escolarian graduates, put on your pen and paper now that you've made your mark. Your commitment, tireless effort, and accomplishments could never be matched. The Escolarian will be forever grateful for the contributions you made to this school publication. What a great privilege it has been to guide junior writers who wrote along this path with all of you. Continue to be brave by not only consistently striving to be good, but also by taking up space and refusing to let anyone downplay your truth. Your dedication and consideration have had a significant impact on the writers who look up to you all. May the flame that burns in the chambers of your heart never die.
